The Duke of York has agreed to serve as the royal patron of the University of Huddersfield.

Prince Andrew has been a regular visitor to the West Yorkshire university and in May opened its £12m Innovation Centre, the university said.

Professor Bob Cryan, the vice-chancellor of the university, said the appointment would help to "encourage enterprise and economic regeneration".

The institution has won two Queen's Awards for Enterprise this year.

Sir Patrick Stewart who was born in nearby Mirfield is the university's chancellor.
