Bradford 'acid attack' men jailed for life

Four men have been jailed for life for the murder of a man in a "sickening and cowardly" acid attack in Bradford.

Barry Selby, 50, had acid thrown in his face and was shot in the leg after the men broke into his home in Rayleigh Street, Bradford, on 14 October 2013.

Mr Selby died in hospital shortly afterwards.

Lee Calvert, 23, Joseph Lowther, 22, Robert Woodhead, 28, and Andrew Feather, 23 were convicted of murder at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday.

No explanation

Det Ch Insp Nick Wallen, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "These men broke into an innocent man's home when he was asleep, viciously assaulted him and doused him with acid.

"It was a sickening and cowardly attack on Barry Selby and sadly led to his untimely death just a few days later."

He added the defendants had never offered any explanation for their actions.

Mr Selby's family issued a statement saying they were "extremely happy" with the outcome of the trial.

Calvert, of Stirling Crescent, Holme Wood, was told he would serve a minimum term of 36 years.

Joseph Lowther, of Copgrove Road, Holme Wood, and Woodhead, of Fred's Place, Tyersal, were each ordered to serve a minimum of 32 years.

Feather, of Heysham Drive, Holme Wood, was ordered to serve 26 years.
