Labour unveils Holly Lynch as Halifax candidate

Holly Lynch was selected from an all-women shortlist

The Labour Party has selected a new candidate to contest the key West Yorkshire marginal seat of Halifax.

Holly Lynch, 28, was selected from an all-women shortlist after taking part in a hustings debate alongside the other candidates earlier.

Ms Lynch was born in Halifax and grew up in the town. She currently works for Yorkshire and Humber MEP Linda McAvan.

She will replace MP Linda Riordan who last month announced she was stepping down after 10 years due to ill health.

Labour held on to Halifax at the last general election with a slim majority of 1,472.

Speaking after winning the selection, Ms Lynch said her number one priority was to "fight for the future of services at Calderdale Royal Hospital, particularly the A&E department and maternity services which so many local people rely upon".
