Four men from Leeds have been jailed for sexually abusing a teenage girl for more than two years.

Tariq Islam, Nasir Sultan, Amir Zaman and Zafar Iqbal appeared for sentence at Leeds Crown Court following a trial.

Sultan, 24, of Beeston Road and Islam, 31, of Cross Quarry Street, were convicted of raping the girl while she was aged 12 to 14.

Det Ch Insp Mark Griffin praised the courage of the girl in giving evidence.

Iqbal, 41, of Latchmere Drive, was convicted of two counts of sexual activity with a child and one of attempted rape. He was jailed for 15 years.

Islam was jailed for 13 years after being found guilty of two counts of child rape, and Sultan was jailed for 12 years for three counts.

Zaman, 25, of Sefton Terrace, was jailed for 11 years for four offences of sexual activity with a child.

All four men were also placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Seven other men are still to be sentenced in relation to the case.

Andrew Penhale, of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), said: "The victim was targeted by older men precisely because of her youth and vulnerability.

"The offences involved an appalling breach of trust - the victim was groomed and plied with cigarettes, alcohol and drugs to make her compliant."

DCI Griffin added: "It is important in this case that we recognise the courage the victim has shown, particularly in giving evidence in court.

"These offences have had a life-changing impact on her and we hope that knowing the men who abused her have had to face the consequences of their actions will be some source of comfort."
