Stabbed Bradford teacher thanks God for "sparing" his life

A teacher who was stabbed at a school in West Yorkshire has expressed his thanks to God for sparing his life.

Vincent Uzomah, 50, a supply teacher at Dixons Kings Academy, Bradford, was injured during a lesson on 11 June.

In a statement he offered "heartfelt gratitude" to many people for the support received "during the course of the most traumatic event of my life".

A boy, 14, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of cannabis.

'Still here'

"It has been 12 days since this event occurred and I thank the Lord Jesus for sparing my life," he said.

"I further wish to take this opportunity to thank all the doctors and nurses, in fact all the healthcare professionals that worked so hard to ensure that I am still here today.

"I have always heard and read that NHS is a first class service, and now I have experienced it. Thank God for the NHS."

He also shared his gratitude for the support received from staff at the school, teachers further afield, and West Yorkshire Police.

"My family and I appreciate the overwhelming support, love and care that we have received from friends and well-wishers, as I continue on the path towards recovery. Thank you all."

The teacher, who is married with two children, had only been working at the school for a few weeks.

A 14-year-old boy has been remanded in custody to appear before Bradford Crown Court on 29 June.

The boy cannot be named for legal reasons.
