A sculpture by Barbara Hepworth has been unveiled at a shopping centre close to the renowned sculptor's birthplace.

Ascending Form (Gloria) is situated at the Trinity Walk shopping centre, in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

It is on loan from the town's Hepworth Wakefield gallery.

The sculptor was born in a house on Duke of York Street in 1903, close to the shopping centre, which was opened more than a century later in 2011.

The city's Hepworth gallery also opened in 2011.

This sculpture had special spiritual significance to Hepworth

The sculpture was made in 1958 and is based on two diamond shapes, a larger one sitting on top of a smaller one. It stands about 5ft (1.5m) high.

It had special spiritual significance to Hepworth and she chose a cast of it for the cemetery in St Ives, Cornwall where she was buried.

Simon Wallis OBE, Director of The Hepworth Wakefield, said: "Art of this quality enhances public spaces, engages wide audiences and helps to enrich our daily lives."
