PC Sharon Beshenivsky shooting murder: Memorial marks 11th anniversary

PC Sharon Beshenivsky had been a police officer for just nine months when she was killed

A memorial service has been held for PC Sharon Beshenivsky who was shot dead 11 years ago.

She was killed outside a travel agency in Morley Street, Bradford, on 18 November 2005 while responding to an armed robbery call.

Detectives have renewed their appeal to trace a man believed to have been the "mastermind" behind the robbery and involved in the shooting.

A minute's silence was also observed at Norfolk Gardens in the city centre.

PC Beshenivsky, 38, had only been an officer for nine months when she was shot in the chest on what was her youngest daughter Lydia's fourth birthday.

Her shift partner, PC Teresa Milburn, was also shot but survived.

Members of West Yorkshire Police attended a memorial service in Bradford city centre to mark the anniversary.

Three were jailed for life for her murder, two for manslaughter. But alleged gang leader Piran Dhitta Khan, 68, is believed to be still on-the-run in Pakistan and is being sought by West Yorkshire Police.

A £20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to his capture.

Det Sup Simon Atkinson said: "This investigation remains ongoing and will continue until everyone involved in PC Beshenivsky's murder has been brought to justice.

"Our efforts are continuing to trace Piran Dhitta Khan, who will now be 68.

"He is thought to be living in Pakistan and we are again appealing directly to the people of Pakistan, as well as those in West Yorkshire and across the country to come forward and provide information on his whereabouts."
