M62: Long delays after police close motorway for five hours
- Published

The motorway has since reopened in both directions
Motorists on the M62 faced long delays and miles of queues when police closed the motorway for five hours.
Drivers reported being at a standstill when traffic was stopped in both directions between junctions 31 and 32, near Pontefract.
They were urged to use alternative routes to avoid five-mile tailbacks.
West Yorkshire Police said the road, which reopened just after 09:00 BST, was closed in response to a concern for a person's safety.
Some drivers said they had been waiting in traffic since 04:40 BST.
