An 18-year-old woman has died after the car she was travelling in overturned during a police chase.

The silver Vauxhall Vectra crashed after it failed to stop for officers on Baildon Road, near Pasture Road, in Bradford at about 23:45 GMT on Tuesday.

Five other people - four men and a woman - were treated for injuries, according to investigators.

The force said a referral had been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

An investigation was under way into the circumstances of the crash and the involvement of West Yorkshire Police, the IOPC said.

There were six people in the car at the time of the crash, while a man located later was given treatment in police custody, a spokesperson added.

IOPC Regional Director Thea Walton said its work was "at an early stage".

"It is important that we understand the events leading up to the collision. Our independent investigation will be thorough and look at the actions and decision-making of police," she added.

Emergency services remained at the scene on Wednesday, with road closures in place as recovery and investigation work took place.

Closures were expected to remain for a number of hours, police added.
