M1 and A1(M): Motorways reopen after two incidents cause delays
- Published
Two stretches of motorway in Yorkshire have been reopened after separate incidents led to their closure.
The M1 had been closed in both directions between junctions 36 and 37 near Barnsley due to a "police-led incident", National Highways said.
Two lanes on the A1(M) southbound were shut between junction 44 for Leeds and 43 for the M1 after a two-car crash.
The roads have since reopened but National Highways warned there may still be delays for some time.
The M1 was closed for more than two hours before reopening at about 18:20 GMT after the incident was "resolved", the government agency said.
There was expected to be delays of about an hour, it added.
The incident on the A1(M) involved two vehicles, one of which has partially overturned, resulting in the central reservation being damaged, pictures show.
At its height there was congestion on the approach to the incident stretching back 7.5 miles (12km).
