A police officer has been arrested on suspicion of blackmail, corruption and misconduct in a public office.
South Yorkshire Police said the alleged offences had taken place while the 27-year-old was off duty but related "to work she was undertaking as part of her role in policing".
The Doncaster-based officer was arrested on Thursday and later released on bail.
She has been suspended from duty pending an investigation.
A spokesperson for the force said the allegations involve "deception for financial gain and her alleged wrongful handling of an investigation she was working on".
Det Supt Delphine Waring, head of Professional Standards, said: "As a force we remain steadfastly committed to being as open and transparent as possible about our professional standards.
"The public rightly expects the very highest standards from our workforce and I assure members of our communities that these allegations will be thoroughly investigated."
She added: "Any officer found to be involved in criminal activities will be dealt with appropriately, both through our robust internal processes and externally through the criminal justice system."
