The incident happened after officers stopped a car on Third Avenue in Rothwell, police say

Three officers were injured during disorder in Leeds at the weekend, according to West Yorkshire Police.

It happened after a car was stopped for a suspected traffic offence on Third Avenue in Rothwell on Sunday afternoon.

The officers suffered minor injuries after a crowd gathered around the car as the driver was being dealt with.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of assaulting police officers, possession of a knife and offensive weapon and possession of controlled drugs.

They had since been released under investigation, a force spokesperson said.

A quantity of suspected Class A and B drugs, a knife and an offensive weapon had been seized during the incident, which happened at about 17:00 BST, they added.

West Yorkshire Police said it would review footage from officers' body-worn cameras and social media footage of the incident, which was standard procedure following an arrest where force was used.

Any breaches of the standards of professional behaviour identified would be assessed and dealt with in line with police conduct regulations, the force said.
