Illingworth: Bomb squad scrambled as 'suspicious object' found during search
- Published
Bomb disposal experts have been deployed to Calderdale following the discovery of "a suspicious object" during a police search.
Some residents in Illingworth, near Halifax, were asked to evacuate their homes "as a precaution" on Saturday, officers said.
West Yorkshire Police said those people were being offered shelter at Illingworth Sports and Social Club.
A 100m cordon remained in place, the force added.
The cordon meant road closures on Natty Lane and Keighley Road between Cobblestones Drive and Illingworth Road. Diversions have been put in place.
Meanwhile, there would be "a visible police presence" in the area to reassure the community, the force said.
The discovery comes after the execution of a warrant at a property on Natty Lane on Thursday.
Two people were arrested at two addresses on suspicion of firearms offences and remained in custody, police said.
