Bradford City Football Club launches free food truck
- Published
Free food will be offered to people after every home game played by Bradford City.
A food truck will be parked outside the City Hub, on Valley Parade, at the University of Bradford Stadium between 18:00 and 19:00 on match days.
Bradford City Community Foundation and charity partner Penny Appeal are running it.
The club said it would help "underprivileged, vulnerable and at-risk members" of the community.
Unused food from the Foundation's City Hub, which is open before every home match, will be donated to the truck to help eliminate food waste.
'Provide nourishment'
The truck will also be in place every Thursday evening from 11 January, between 18:00 and 18:45, with the City Hub remaining open afterwards to offer a warm, safe place for those collecting food to "gather, connect and shelter".
Community Foundation Chief Executive Officer and and former City striker, Ian Ormondroyd said: "The food truck will do crucial work in providing for the underprivileged, vulnerable and at-risk members of our community.
"Hopefully, by combining our efforts with the club, Penny Appeal and our City Hub, we can make a real and lasting difference, which not only provides for Bradford's community members, but allows us to reduce food waste, too."
Penny Appeal Chief Executive Ridwana Wallace-Laher said the truck was an "opportunity to provide nourishment for vulnerable people" in the city.
"We are delighted the City Hub will be opening its doors to coincide with the food truck's offerings on Thursday evenings.
She said it meant people would be able to "get a hot meal from the food truck and then have a warm and safe place to eat it".
