A Leeds school boy has been praised online after he dressed up as his rugby hero Kevin Sinfield for World Book Day.

Thomas, six, said he saw the former Leeds Rhino's player as a "real life hero" and wanted to show his support for the MND Association.

His dad, Jonathan, 47, who plays for the Rhinos wheelchair team, said: "He wanted to be able to talk about MND like Kevin and bring awareness to it.

"Thomas absolutely loves Kevin and sees him as a real life hero."

Sinfield played more than 500 times for Leeds between 1997 and 2015 and in recent years has helped raise millions of pounds for the MND Association after his former teammate Rob Burrow was diagnosed with the condition in 2019.

Explaining why he saw Sinfield as a hero, Thomas said: "He helps his best friend Rob Burrow and all the other people with MND and their families."

After his dad shared a post on Facebook he was inundated with comments praising his son.

One person described him as "a great example to others" while another said he "couldn't have chosen a better hero".
