AG Barr said it would support those affected throughout the process

The company that makes drinks including Irn-Bru plans to cut almost 200 jobs as part of an overhaul of how it works.

AG Barr said the roles would be cut through the closure of its direct sales operations at three sites across the UK, affecting up to 160 jobs.

The proposed closure of the Leeds office for its energy drink brand Boost has also placed 35 roles at risk.

A company spokesperson said it would "do everything possible to support those affected throughout the process."

AG Barr said it was changing how it sold products to independent retailers and convenience stores, which would result in the closure of sites in Greater Manchester, Wednesbury and Dagenham.

The move is expected to be completed by the end of June.

'Full and proper consultation'

Cuts are also planned as part of a shake-up at Boost, the energy drinks business it bought in December 2022 for up to £32m.

AG Barr said it intended to integrate Boost into its Barr Soft Drinks operation by the end of the year, in a move affecting 35 workers in Leeds office.

"The proposals are subject to full and proper consultation with impacted employees over the coming months," the spokesperson added.

"The company will do everything possible to support those affected throughout the process."

The drinks firm said it expected to create a number of new field sales roles.
