Kirklees Council set to sell off buildings and land to plug £47m deficit
- Published
Historic buildings and community facilities are included in a list of more than 50 assets looking to be disposed of by a cash-strapped council.
Kirklees Council needs to save £47m from next year's budget.
A report by the local authority shows it wants to make a minimum of £4m within the current financial year from the sales.
The report states the Grade II listed former Red House Museum is one property in line to be sold.
Also on the list is the former Almondbury Library and community facilities including the DRAM Sport and Community Centre at Dalton.
Plots of land, village halls and former council offices are also listed for disposal, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
While the council is looking to bring in some cash, other options for some sites include community asset transfers where a site is handed over to be owned and managed by the community.
