Firefighters have been tackling a major blaze which broke out overnight on the site of a former school in Dewsbury.

Crews from six stations across West Yorkshire were called to the incident at the derelict building at about 22:50 BST on Monday.

The fire was contained to the upper floors and roof of the premises on Birkdale Road, the fire service said.

Crews remained at the scene on Tuesday and an investigation to establish the cause is under way.

The fire service said nobody was inside the building at the time.

The site contains the former buildings of Birkdale High School and Kirklees College campus.
