Istvan Horvath, 56, is wanted by Hungarian law enforcement after being convicted of assaulting a police officer

A man who has been on the run for more than 10 years after assaulting a police officer in Hungary is thought to be in hiding in West Yorkshire.

Istvan Horvath, 56, was convicted in 2013 and jailed in his absence after absconding before sentencing.

He was wanted by Hungarian law enforcement and had links to Dewsbury, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said.

However an NCA spokesperson added that he could be "anywhere in the county or surrounding areas".

Rickie Taylor, from the agency, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who has information that may assist us in our search for Horvath Istvan, who we believe is in the Dewsbury area.

"If you see him, or have any information pertaining to his whereabouts, I urge you to contact us as soon as possible."

Horvath, who was sentenced to three years in jail in his absence, is described as slim, about 5ft 5ins tall (1.65m), with short brown hair.
