Volunteer appeal for green survey in Leicester

An appeal has been made for volunteers and groups to take part in a survey of wildlife and nature in Leicester.

The city council's parks services team will focus on biodiversity in green spaces and discovering the wildlife which lives among the hedges.

This follows a project to look at the quality, clarity and acidity levels in 12 bodies of water across the city.

Officials said schools and community groups were a major help with this and asked for more to get involved.

The aim was for people to explore, enjoy and protect their local environment, they added.

The survey is part of the Opal Explore Nature scheme, a national programme backed by the Natural History Museum.
