Leicester City Council submits new market plans

Leicester City Council has completed a consultation with traders over a £600,000 market revamp.
Proposals for the city centre market include removing part of the roof canopy for open-air trading and improvements to waste recycling.
Councillor Paul Westley, from the Labour-run city council, said traders' concerns about being offered comparable new pitches had been taken on board.
A planning application will now be submitted, for work to start in 2011.
Reassurance
The council also wants to introduce 20 new, pop-up, gazebo-style stalls and a seating area.
Mr Westley said: "A number of issues have been raised by market traders, many of whom currently work within the affected area.
"I can assure all traders affected by the changes that they will be offered comparable stalls that are currently vacant. We have also taken on board concerns that the new pop-up stalls need to be well-designed to withstand all weathers."
If planning permission is granted, work could begin in January 2011 and be completed by March 2011.
