Consultation over plans for 4,000 homes in Lubbesthorpe

A series of public consultation events are being held over proposals to build more than 4,000 new houses near Leicester.

A consortium of developers has drawn up the Lubbesthorpe plans, which include three new schools.

The project has drawn criticism from some local residents who say extra traffic would put pressure on already congested roads.

Four consultations are taking place in the area between Monday and Thursday.

Developers Davidsons, Hallam Land Management and Barratt David Wilson, said the "New Lubbesthorpe" will have 4,250 new homes, 75 acres of new woodland and 250 acres of open space and park land.

Green space

The plans also include a mixed-use neighbourhood centre, shops and a leisure centre, as well as two primary schools and one secondary school.

But the Leicester Forest East Residents Action Group said the development would seriously disrupt traffic flow and increase pollution.

The group has also argued that the area already has enough green space, including "well farmed and arable land, woods, footpaths and wildlife habitats".

The first consultation event takes place in Enderby on Monday, followed by further meetings in Braunstone and Leicester Forest East.

A planning application has yet to be submitted.
