Campaign to cut mobile phone thefts in Leicester

A campaign to reduce the theft of mobile phones from clubs, bars and pubs has begun in Leicester.

The scheme by the Safer Leicester Partnership is aimed at young adults, asking them to take care of their mobile phones.

Each month about 40 phones are stolen from revellers, said police.

A spokesperson for the Leicestershire force said: "We believe this number would be cut significantly if owners did not leave their phones unattended."

Posters have been distributed to bars and pubs across the city to remind people to keep their mobile phones out of sight.

A YouTube video has also been produced urging owners to keep their possessions safe.
