Leicester parking scheme limits commuters

A parking scheme is being started to discourage commuters from parking in an area of Leicester.
The move aims to stop the streets off London Road in Stoneygate and South Highfields being used for all-day parking by people going into the city.
The scheme will give parking priority to local residents and businesses, who will be able to apply for permits.
The scheme also offers free parking for visitors for up to two hours by using a smart-card device.
The move follows a consultation with local businesses and residents.
A similar residents-only parking scheme has been operating successfully in other parts of Highfields since 2008.
Fines will be given after 1 July following a month of written warnings for anyone parking illegally.
Stoneygate ward councillor Lucy Chaplin said: "It is hoped the scheme will ease parking problems in the area, which have inconvenienced many local residents."
