Two men have suffered burns during an attack at a pub in Leicester.

Police said inquiries were at an early stage but they believe the men were attacked in the beer garden of the Rainbow and Dove.

The men, 22 and 20, were injured when a liquid was thrown at the Charles Street pub at about 00:40 BST on Tuesday, police said.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack and remains in police custody.

Det Insp Simon Preston said: "This was a horrific incident which has resulted in one person receiving significant burn injuries and the other with injuries to his hands."

He said one of the injured men might not be well enough to be interviewed for several weeks.

Both victims were taken to Nottingham City Hospital's burns unit.
