Leicester Royal Infirmary's intensive care unit has reopened after being closed following the discovery of a patient with a rare superbug.

A patient was found to be infected with Acinetobacter baumannii, a bacteria that is resistant to a wide range of antibiotics.

The unit closed on Friday and has now been steam cleaned and disinfected, a hospital spokesperson said.

The hospital continued to provide intensive care on other wards.

Up to 10 non-urgent operations had to be cancelled as a result of the closure.
