Council services are to begin sharing buildings as part of Leicestershire County Council's plans to save money.

From Monday the authority's adult and children's social care department will be based at Harborough District Council's headquarters.

The move is expected to save the county council £800,000 a year from the cost of running its offices.

Representatives said the relocation forms part of plans to make £38m in savings over four years.

Director of adults and communities, Mick Connell, said: "We have been working with Harborough District Council for some time on integrating our office accommodation.

"We have already developed schemes with other district and borough councils and now with Harborough where we are upgrading facilities together."

The authority's care services will now be based at the refurbished Symington building at the district council's headquarters on Adam and Eve Street, Market Harborough.

Melton and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Councils are already involved in the project to share offices and buildings with other councils.
