A big wheel measuring 100 ft (30 m) in diameter is set to be erected in Leicester ready for Diwali.

The "wheel of light" will be erected in Belgrave Road in time for the Hindu festival next month and will then be moved to Jubilee Square for Christmas.

The city's Diwali celebrations attract about 30,000 people along Leicester's Golden Mile every year.

City councillor Piara Singh Clair said the areas chosen were prime spots for "spectacular" city views.

He said: "It's a real opportunity to have a city view from the air. This is the right choice for the city and people will enjoy that."

Leicester's Diwali celebrations are believed to be among the biggest outside India.

The wheel will be in Belgrave Road from 16 October to 15 November and will move to Jubilee Square in time for the switching on of the Christmas lights on 22 November.

The structure will stay there until 2 January.
