An armed police officer investigating an assault has been seriously injured in a "deliberate" hit-and-run.
Three men, aged 25, 21 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody.
The officer suffered serious head injuries on Bradbourne Road, Leicester, on Friday morning, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police had been attending reports of an assault and someone armed with a gun in Belvoir Street before the incident.
Four men, two aged 20 and two aged 19, who were arrested on suspicion of affray have been released pending further investigations.
The force said a white Mercedes was seen in Belvoir Street after the assault and someone inside was said to have a firearm.
Police said the Mercedes was then seen in Bradbourne Road and, when attempts were made to stop it, it was driven into the officer and left the scene.
The vehicle was found in Portsmouth Road at 09:00 and a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Two men, 21 and 20, were also arrested at an address in Loughborough Road.
The four men held on suspicion of affray were arrested in Belvoir Street.
Deputy Chief Constable Rob Nixon said officers were working to "piece together the full circumstances".
He said: "This series of incidents has left one of our officers seriously injured and a man hurt in an assault.
"The injuries caused to our officer are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
"We urge anyone who has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to make contact."
He also tweeted that the injured officer was "receiving good medical care".

Matt Robinson, secretary of Leicestershire Police Federation, said: "It's always difficult to hear news of a colleague getting injured whilst on duty especially in these circumstances.
"Deliberately driving a vehicle at an officer is nothing more than an attempt to take a life."
It "brings into focus the risks police officers are expected to take" to keep communities safe, he added.
Police and the public have been wishing the injured officer well on Twitter.
