An 18-year-old man has been stabbed to death in Leicestershire.
Police were alerted at 00:55 BST and the man was found injured in Sword Drive, Hinckley. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Principal Richard Cahill, of Hinckley Academy, said the victim was a former student and there was "sadness and anger" felt by the community.
He said: "It is tragic and it could have been prevented. There's a sadness his friends, family and the school community feel.
"There's also a sense of anger about what a senseless waste it was."
Students and staff from the school have left tributes near the scene, including a school tie in a bunch of flowers.
One message on a card read: "You will be missed. From all at Hinckley Academy xxx."
Mr Cahill said: "They felt it was a fitting tribute to come and bring some flowers and a school tie to honour his memory."
He added students and staff affected by the death were being supported and would be offered counselling.
Det Insp Jonathan Blockley, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: "We are starting to piece together the circumstances surrounding what happened and how this man sustained his injury.
"While we have already identified a number of witnesses, it's still important we speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any information as to why it took place."
A police cordon was in place for several hours and a number of roads were closed. Those roads have reopened.
