Part of the M1 in Leicestershire remains closed after a crash between HGVs and a number of vehicles.
Leicestershire Police said two HGVs, two cars and four vans were involved in the collision between junction 22 and 23 on the northbound carriageway at about 22:30 BST on Wednesday.
Seven people were injured, the force added.
National Highways says one lane will stay closed until resurfacing work is carried out at 20:00 BST.
In a statement, police said some of the injured suffered broken bones but added none of the injuries were thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The force is also looking to speak to any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage to aid its investigations.
"The vehicles were all queuing to leave the motorway at junction 23, due to closures further along the motorway," it said.
"A number of vehicles may have witnessed what happened and officers are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling along the M1 around the time of the incident and may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it."
