A section of the M1 in Leicestershire had to be closed for several hours after a lorry fire.

Leicestershire Police said the motorway was closed in both directions between junctions 23 and 23a near Loughborough.

National Highways said the lorry caught fire after being involved in a crash shortly before 13:00 GMT.

The vehicle "has caused damage to an elevated bridge section", it said, which had to be assessed before traffic was allowed to pass.

One lane of three on the northbound carriageway remains closed while emergency repairs to a damaged barrier are carried out, which National Highways said "will likely be ongoing for some time".

The fire service said the fire had been put out by about 16:30 GMT and confirmed there had not been any injuries.
