Ashby: Elderly man dies after being struck by van

A man in his 80s has died in hospital after being struck by a van in Leicestershire.

Police were called to Market Street, Ashby, at 05:56 GMT on Thursday by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Officers said the man, who has not been named, was seriously injured and despite treatment, died hours later.

Inquiries at the scene are ongoing, police said, and anyone with information about the crash has been urged to make contact.

Det Sgt Jon Putnam, from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Sadly the man who was injured in the collision has died.

"We are continuing to carry out inquiries to establish the full circumstances of the collision."
