Police have named a man stabbed to death in Leicester as 59-year-old Sidney Palmer.
Leicestershire Police said Mr Palmer was found with a stab wound to his chest in Conduit Street at 19:30 BST on Saturday and died at the scene.
Two men arrested in connection with his death are being held in custody, the force said.
Mr Palmer's daughter said her father, who was known as Sid, would be "missed dearly".
In a statement, Leanne Palmer said: "My dad had a tough life and for it to end this way breaks our hearts.
"We cannot believe that someone would violently take his life in this way.
"Sid was well known to lots of people in Leicester and he had many friends who will miss him dearly.
"We want to ask people to come forward and help the police as we want to get justice for Sid who was a father, brother, uncle and friend to many."
She urged anyone with information about her father's death to contact the police.
Detectives said a black taxi drove down Conduit Street as the incident was unfolding and they would like to speak to its driver or passengers in it as soon as possible.
Leicestershire Police said a 29-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder and a 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm remained in custody.
A 27-year-old man who was also arrested has been released with no further action, the force said.
