A police officer who reversed into a parked car and then tried to drive off without leaving details would have been sacked had he not resigned.

PC Maciej Dabrowski was two weeks into his job at Leicestershire Police when he was driving in Derby with a colleague on his way to work on 3 April.

He then reversed his vehicle into the car, causing damage to both vehicles.

The PC said he did not want to leave his details, a misconduct panel heard.

In a redacted report released by the force, the PC's colleague confirmed damage had been caused to the parked car, and in response, PC Dabrowski said something to the effect of: "Let's just go we're late."

His colleague stressed PC Dabrowski should stop and leave details, which he did "reluctantly", before asking his co-worker not to tell anyone about the collision.

'Without integrity'

PC Dabrowski had not reported the collision by 09:30, after arriving at work at 08:20, so his colleague did, the report added.

The force said the officer "accepted his wrongdoing and subsequently resigned".

A misconduct hearing, chaired by Chief Constable Rob Nixon, was held at the force's headquarters in Enderby.

It found PC Dabrowski committed gross misconduct and would have been dismissed had he not resigned.

Mr Nixon said: "He [PC Dabrowski] acted dishonestly and without integrity - this behaviour will not be accepted in our force.

"I do want to acknowledge the actions of former PC Dabrowski's colleague who acted with candour and integrity throughout to ensure this incident was dealt with swiftly and professionally and in line with the highest standards which are rightly expected from us."
