Arrest over double injury in M1 congestion crash

The crash on the M1 in Leicestershire appears to have happened around 30 minutes after the fire

A man has been arrested after two people were injured, one seriously, in a crash on the M1 on Saturday.

A car and motorcycle collided near junction 21A northbound in congestion caused by an earlier lorry fire.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, remains in hospital, but the female car driver was discharged after treatment police said.

A man, aged 20, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, officers confirmed.

He has since been released under investigation.

Due to the fire the carriageway was closed overnight for repairs and only reopened at 07:00 BST on Sunday.

Police have appealed for anyone with dashcam footage of the incident or who witnessed the incident to come forward.
