A library may have to close if a new group of volunteers cannot be found to run it.

Ibstock Community Library has been managed by a team of villagers, supported by Leicestershire County Council, since 2014.

However, the authority has been told the volunteer group cannot continue beyond February.

The council fears the library may shut if new recruits are not found, Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

A spokesman for Leicestershire council said: "Should it not be possible to find a viable community-managed solution, we are proposing that the current library will close and that a mobile library service will provide the book lending service to residents."

The next nearest library it runs is in Coalville which is 4.3 miles (6.9km) away.

Christine Radford, county council cabinet member for libraries, thanked the outgoing team of volunteers, adding: "We're open to new ways of operating the library and would urge people with creative ideas to come forward and register their interest."
