Melton Borough Council has developed a strategy to tackle climate change in their area

Councillors are asking a local community to help shape their strategy to tackle climate change.

An environmental plan has been developed by Melton Borough Council following a public consultation.

It provides a strategy to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the changing climate.

The council said the scheme includes plans for transport, housing, waste and the local economy as well as protecting nature and the natural environment.

Residents, local business, community groups and other organisations are being invited to help shape the new local strategy.

Margaret Glancy, deputy leader of the council, said: "Whilst we will continue our work to further reduce our own emissions and become a more sustainable organisation, this strategy will set out goals that support the whole borough to accelerate action across and tackle climate change together.

"We encourage everyone to share their feedback on this community-based strategy and help shape the climate actions that will be prioritised locally."

The consultation is open until 23:59 GMT on 31 January 2024.
