A man has been taken to hospital after a crash involving two lorries on the A42 in Leicestershire.

Officers were called shortly after 11:00 GMT on Monday to the northbound carriageway, Leicestershire Police said.

The lorry driver, who is in his 60s, is thought to have suffered possible life-changing injuries, while the other lorry driver was not hurt.

A section of the road was closed but reopened in the afternoon.

Police said the two lorries were involved in the crash before one hit a central reservation.

The A42 - between junction 13, at Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and junction 23 of the M1, near East Midlands Airport - was shut and fire and ambulance crews, as well as an air ambulance, were called to the scene.

Shortly before 15:00, the road reopened.

At about 12:50, National Highways said there were delays of 90 minutes from the south and 60 minutes for motorists approaching from the north.

Police are appealing for information and dashcam footage.
