A woman died when she was hit by a car near a petrol station in Leicester.

Police said she was struck by a grey Toyota Prius near a Shell petrol station on the A50 in Glenfield at about 23:00 GMT on Saturday.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

Police believe several vehicles were driving past at the time and appealed for witnesses.
