Plans for a £1m revamp of the centre of a Leicestershire village have been approved.
North West Leicestershire District Council said it wanted to improve Market Place in Kegworth.
A new flexible space for holding events and markets would be created, while maintaining the current number of parking spaces is planned, the council said.
The authority added work on the scheme would start before the spring.
The planned improvements include creating wider pavements along London Road and Derby Road, which is to get a new pedestrian crossing.
The council said new bike parking and benches would also be installed and that the southern end of Market Place was to be reopened to vehicles to create a one-way entrance.
The Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) is contributing £500,000 towards the scheme, £450,000 will come from the district council, with Kegworth Parish Council adding £50,000.
