A cat that was found abandoned in a Primark store has been taken in by the RSPCA.

The black domestic longhair cat was found in a carrier by a member of staff in the Leicester city centre shop on Tuesday.

An RSPCA spokesperson said the bag had been pushed under a clothes rail of Bart Simpson children's jumpers.

The female cat was taken to a vet, who found her in a good condition, and has since been moved to a private cattery.

The animal is believed to be aged between 12 and 18 months old.

RSPCA inspector Richard Durant said: "It is very odd for someone to abandon a cat in the middle of a busy shop.

"Staff at the store are checking CCTV. In the meantime, we're urging anyone who has any information about this cat to get in touch with us."
