Next has applied to expand its HQ in Enderby

A major retailer is planning to expand its Leicestershire head office.

Plans submitted by Next to Blaby District Council would see a new storage building built at its headquarters in Enderby.

An existing recycling centre would be relocated to make way for the development.

The building is described as a two-storey building of "modern appearance" and "simple and functional" design.

Next has had its headquarters in Enderby since 1986.

The company has expanded the site previously, with recent additions including an on-site nursery in 2012 and a new photo studio in 2016.

The latest designs state the new building would present a permanent solution to the temporary containers scattered around the site which are currently used for storage.

It would also provide extra space to keep homeware samples and IT equipment, the documents add.

The building is described as a two-storey building of "modern appearance" and "simple and functional" design.

There would also be a collection point for staff to pick up orders they have placed through the company.

A service yard is also proposed at the back of the building, with space for two heavy goods vehicles to unload and turn.

A staff "amenity area" is included in the plan as well, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Planning officers recommend that the plans are approved by the council's planning committee which will vote on the designs on Thursday.

If approved a condition will be enforced on the plans to ensure the building is never used as a distribution centre.
