A new app will allow Leicester library members to browse thousands of books on their phones.

The Leicester Libraries app, introduced by Leicester City Council on Tuesday, had been developed using funding from a national grants programme called LibraryOn.

Members will be able to check their accounts, renew and reserve books.

They could also search the free catalogue of e-books, newspapers, magazines and audiobooks.

Vi Dempster leads on libraries for Leicester City Council

Assistant city mayor councillor Vi Dempster said: "We want as many people as possible to benefit from being a member of Leicester's libraries and the thousands of titles they can borrow for free.

"Our new libraries app is easy to use and full of helpful features to help members make the most of their local library services whenever is most convenient for them."

LibraryOn is supported by Arts Council England and aims to help public libraries improve their digital presence.

People will also be able to use the app to scan a book they are interested in at a bookshop or elsewhere and find out if it's available to borrow from a local library, as well as book a PC and print wirelessly at any library.
