A 19th Century magistrates court in Leicestershire could be given a new lease of life after plans were put forward.

Developers want to turn the Grade II-listed building in Gilmorton Road, Lutterworth, into homes.

The court, which was built in the late 1880s, sits adjacent to the town's former police station.

A planning application for the three-apartment project has been submitted to Harborough District Council.

The court, which according to Lutterworth Museum closed in 1998, sold six years ago after going up for auction.

A heritage report said the project would give the building "a new sustainable lease of life", and allow it to "continue to be protected as a historic asset".

According to the report, some of the work proposed has already started.
