Plans to replace a Leicestershire school roof made out of crumbling concrete have been approved.

In 2023, inspectors found reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac) in the school hall, kitchen and a cupboard at St Joseph's Catholic Voluntary Academy, in Market Harborough.

An application to replace the roof on the building's hall has been approved by Harborough District Council.

The school said work would be completed "as soon as possible".

Teaching continued as normal at the school after officials confirmed the discovery of Raac in September 2023.

Plans were submitted to replace the roof in January, and were approved by council officers at the end of March.

A spokesperson from St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Multi-Academy Trust, which runs the school, said: "We are delighted that the plans to replace the Raac in our school hall and kitchen have been approved, we expect work to begin shortly and look forward to this project being completed as soon as possible.

"The St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Multi-Academy Trust has worked closely with architects and construction consultants, YMD Boon, and we would like to thank them for their hard work and determination in managing this project."
