A van driver has been taken to hospital after two female pedestrians were hit in Leicester.

Police said officers received a report of a collision on Narborough Road at about 13:15 BST on Wednesday.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said a man in his 50s remained in hospital "where he is continuing to receive treatment for serious injuries".

The two women "suffered minor injuries".

The road was closed in both directions from the junction of Upperton Road to Westcotes Drive.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses to come forward.

PC Ellise Timmins said: "This collision occurred on a busy stretch of road and I know there'll have been people who saw what happened."
