A person was taken to hospital after a car crashed into a house in Leicester.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) said it was called to Glenfield Road, in the Western Park area, at about 16:20 BST on Tuesday, when a lamp-post had become pinned against a house as a result of the crash.

The injured person, who was in the car, was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, LFRS said.

A building inspector also attended and the lamp-post was removed with a crane.

A spokesperson for LFRS added the building inspector determined that "the structure [house] would remain safe" after the car was recovered.

Glenfield Road was temporarily closed at the junction with Gimson Road and Sandhurst Road, but has since reopened, the fire service said.

Leicestershire Police has been approached for more information.
