A man who raped a 17-year-old girl at a New Year 's Eve party after plying her with alcohol has been jailed.

Leigh Moore, 44, attacked the girl as she drifted in and out of consciousness at the party in Glen Parva, Leicestershire, police said.

Moore had denied sexual activity with the victim, but police said he pleaded guilty to the rape after they disclosed they had "vital DNA evidence".

On Friday, he was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court.

Moore, of Whitecross Gardens, Derby, was jailed for six years and four months, and given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and restraining order, both for 10 years.

Leicestershire Police said the victim recalled lying down in one of the rooms of the house in the early hours before Moore entered and closed the door and curtains.

The force said the victim froze and was unable to push Moore off.

She reported the rape to police and Moore was arrested.

He went on to plead guilty to rape and sexual assault by penetration.

Det Con Joseph Elliot said Moore had been "providing [the victim] with drink throughout the night and so was well aware she was heavily intoxicated".

He added that he hoped the 17-year-old girl could now begin to "move forward with her life."
