Police say the boy was struck on Monday afternoon

An 11-year-old boy suffered a serious leg injury when he was struck by a van in a Leicestershire town.

Police said the child was hit by a silver Ford Transit van in Moat Street, Wigston, at about 15:20 BST on Monday.

He was taken to hospital where he continues to receive treatment.

Leicestershire Police said no-one had been arrested in connection with the crash but officers have appealed for anyone who witnessed it or has dashcam footage to come forward.

PC David Handisides said: "While we've spoken to several people already, I'm asking for anyone who can help but who has not yet spoken to us to come forward.

"We know traffic in the area was heavy at the time the incident occurred, so I'd like to speak to anyone who has a dashcam in their vehicle or who saw what happened."
